The best teleprompter apps for Mac
The best teleprompter app for Mac depends on the job. For video calls, pick a notch or floating app that follows your voice on your Mac, such as VoicePrompter, Avocado or CueNotch; Textream does it for free. For recording to camera across Mac, iPhone and iPad, Teleprompter.com and PromptSmart are the established options. For no install at all, use a browser teleprompter.
How we made this list: we compared what each vendor publishes on its own website, pricing page or App Store listing, all checked on 2 October 2026. We haven't tested every app hands-on, so this is a fact comparison, not a review. Prices change often: check the vendor's page before you buy.
Disclosure: we make SocialAI Prompter, a Mac teleprompter that is currently in private beta. It is not in the ranking below; see where it fits at the end.

For video calls: notch and floating apps
These apps keep your script in a small window at the top of the screen, next to the camera, on top of Zoom, Google Meet or Teams, and most process speech on your Mac.
- VoicePrompter: matches the words you say rather than just sound, on-device, with 60+ languages listed. The free version allows 3 scripts with voice scrolling included. Needs macOS 15. Also on iPhone, iPad and Android, plus a free web version.
- Avocado: notch or floating window, no account needed. Free includes hiding from screen share and 3 voice sessions a week; Pro ($7.99/mo or $79.99/yr) makes voice unlimited and adds recording. macOS 14+.
- CueNotch: free with 3 activations a day and 100-word scripts, voice included. Paid is $7.99 a week or $29.99 lifetime; the lifetime price equals under four weeks of the weekly plan. macOS 14+.
- Notchie ($29.99 once) andMoody ($39 once): one-time-price notch apps that scroll with your voice and run locally. Notchie needs macOS 14.6, Moody macOS 15.
- Textream: free and open source (MIT), with word tracking through macOS speech recognition, notch, floating or full-screen modes, and a remote display. macOS 15+. Note its own caveat: macOS may process speech on the Mac or send audio to Apple.
- NotchPrompter: a simple notch prompter that scrolls while it hears speech and pauses when you stop. Free source code, or $4.99 on the App Store.
- ShareSpeak: Mac and Windows, with a choice of speech engine (Apple or Whisper locally, or Gemini in the cloud). Sold as a low one-time price; its notch mode is in beta.
For recording to camera and multiple devices
- Teleprompter.com: one account across Mac (macOS 12+), iPhone, iPad, Android and web, with VoiceGlide voice scrolling, recording, remotes and an always-on-top Mac window. The free plan needs an account, watermarks recordings and doesn't include mirroring. Pro is $19.99 a month, or $7.50 a month billed yearly.
- PromptSmart: voice tracking (VoiceTrack) that runs on the device without internet. On Mac, use the Studio Edition included in the $9.99/mo or $99.99/yr plan; the iPhone apps run on Apple-silicon Macs but are marked "Not verified for macOS" in the App Store. 7-day trial (compared with our free teleprompter).
- Speakflow: mainly a web teleprompter, with a Mac and Windows desktop app in beta for paid plans ($19/mo, or $15/mo billed yearly). The desktop app floats on top, passes clicks through and says it hides from screen capture.
Other options
- VODIUM: a desktop teleprompter for meetings that stays on top of other windows, with manual and auto-scroll ($15/mo, 7-day trial with a card). Voice tracking is announced for an upcoming web product.
- Teleprompter Premium+: iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Watch with one subscription; voice scrolling and the floating Ghost Mode are paid. macOS 14+.
No install: browser teleprompters
If you only need a teleprompter now and then, a website works on any Mac, with no download:
- SocialAI online teleprompter (ours): unlimited voice tracking in Chrome, Edge and Safari, webcam recording, mirror mode, no sign-up.
- CuePrompter: free, no sign-up, mirror mode and colour themes; steady-speed scrolling only, no voice tracking (compared with ours).
- Speakflow web: voice scrolling on the free plan is limited to 2-minute takes, and the free plan needs an account (compared with ours).
The catch with any browser tab: it can't stay on top of a full-screen meeting. For live calls, a Mac app (or the window setup in our Zoom guide) works better.
What to look for
- How it follows your voice. Word matching knows where you are in the script and can wait if you ad-lib. Sound-triggered scrolling just moves while you talk. See how voice tracking works.
- On-device or cloud. On-device recognition works offline and keeps audio on your Mac. Cloud recognition sends audio to a provider, so check its privacy terms.
- Placement. The closer the text is to the camera, the better your eye contact. Notch apps put it right next to the lens on a MacBook; with an external webcam, a floating window you can move under the camera matters more.
- Hidden from screen share. Useful if you present slides. It's a vendor claim we haven't tested; try it with your own meeting app before an important call.
- Pricing model. Several apps sell weekly plans; compare against the monthly, yearly or lifetime price before you subscribe.
- macOS version. Many new apps need macOS 14 or 15. Check yours in the Apple menu › About This Mac.
Where SocialAI Prompter fits (private beta)
SocialAI Prompter is our Mac teleprompter for video calls. It keeps your script in a see-through strip under the webcam that follows your voice and lets clicks pass through to the meeting, and it adds practice with feedback on pace and filler words. It runs on macOS 13 or later, Apple Silicon and Intel.
To be clear about what it doesn't do yet, compared with the apps above:
- It's a private beta: testers are invited in batches from the waitlist, so you can't download it today.
- Voice tracking in the beta uses cloud speech recognition (audio goes to our provider, Deepgram, and isn't stored by us). On-device recognition is coming.
- It is not hidden from screen share. Share a single window instead of your whole screen.
If that fits what you need, join the beta waitlist.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best free teleprompter app for Mac?
If you want everything free, Textream is open source (MIT) with voice tracking and notch placement, for macOS 15 or later. VoicePrompter, Avocado and CueNotch have free versions with voice scrolling and limits. With no install at all, a browser teleprompter such as our free online teleprompter tracks your voice without limits.
Which Mac teleprompter apps follow your voice?
Most of the newer Mac apps do: VoicePrompter, Avocado, CueNotch, Notchie, Moody, Textream, ShareSpeak, Teleprompter.com, PromptSmart and the Speakflow desktop beta. Some match the words you say; others, like NotchPrompter, scroll while they detect speech and pause when you stop.
Can people on a Zoom call see my teleprompter?
Not through your camera, which only films you. If you share your screen, a normal window can appear in the share. Several apps say they hide themselves from screen sharing; test it with your own meeting app before relying on it, and share a single window rather than your whole screen when you can.
Is there a teleprompter that sits under the MacBook notch?
Yes. Notch-style apps include Avocado, CueNotch, Notchie, Moody, Textream, NotchPrompter and ShareSpeak (notch mode in beta). Placing the text at the notch keeps your eyes right next to the camera.
Do Mac teleprompter apps work offline?
Apps that recognise speech on the Mac can: VoicePrompter, Avocado, CueNotch, Notchie, Moody and PromptSmart say audio is processed on your device. Speakflow says it may use external speech services. Steady-speed scrolling works offline in any app.
