Free online teleprompter that follows your voice

Paste your script, press Start and read out loud. The text scrolls as you speak, so you never rush to keep up or wait for it. Voice tracking is free and unlimited, on your laptop, tablet or phone.

Teleprompter

Watch it follow a voice

43-second demo: the text follows the voice, waits on a pause and catches up after a skipped line. Narration is an AI voice.

How to use this teleprompter

  1. Add your script: paste it into the box above, or press Import file for a Word, PDF or text file. It's saved in your browser for next time. No script yet? Try one of our practice scripts.
  2. Press Start and allow the microphone. Read out loud at your normal pace; the current word is highlighted and the line you're reading stays near the top of the screen.
  3. Prefer a fixed speed? Press Play instead. Use − and + to change the words per minute (140 is a comfortable presenting pace).
  4. Adjust as you go: A− / A+ for text size, ↺ to go back to the start, click any word to jump there, and full screen for recording.
  5. Record yourself: press ● Rec to film from your webcam while you read, then download the video. No watermark, no upload.
  6. Make it yours in Settings (⚙): colours, text width, where the reading line sits, a countdown before you start, and upside-down text for rigs that need it.

Keyboard: space plays or pauses, arrow keys nudge forward and back, F toggles full screen, Esc closes.

Teleprompter for your laptop

Your laptop is already a teleprompter: the screen holds the script and the webcam sits right above it. To make it look like eye contact:

  1. Make the window narrow and drag it to the top-centre of the screen, directly under the webcam. In Settings (⚙), set the text width to narrow and the reading line to Top.
  2. Make the text big with A+ until you can read it without leaning in.
  3. Raise the laptop on a stand or a few books so the camera is level with your eyes.
  4. Press Start and read. With voice tracking, the line you're reading stays at the top, next to the camera, and waits when you pause.

It works the same on a MacBook, a Windows laptop or a Chromebook. Voice tracking needs Chrome, Edge or Safari; other browsers scroll at a steady speed. More setup tips: how to make eye contact on video calls.

Voice tracking or steady scrolling?

Voice tracking is best when you speak naturally, pause for emphasis or ad-lib: the script waits for you. Steady scrolling works in every browser and suits a fixed-pace read, like a narration or voice-over.

Who uses it

  • YouTube and social videos: record to camera without memorising, and keep a natural pace with voice tracking.
  • Video calls and webinars: keep your talking points near the webcam on Zoom, Google Meet or Teams.
  • Speeches and presentations: rehearse with the countdown and your target pace, then time it with the speech time calculator.
  • Churches, schools and events: run it full screen on a monitor or tablet as a confidence monitor; use Mirror for glass rigs.
  • Actors and voice-over: steady-speed mode for narration, voice mode for self-tapes.

Tips for sounding natural when reading

  • Write the way you talk: short sentences, contractions, one idea per line.
  • Keep the text near the top of the screen, close to your camera, so your eyes don't drift down.
  • Use a larger font and a narrower window so your eyes move less across each line.
  • Rehearse once out loud and mark words you stumble on; rewrite them rather than forcing it.
  • Check your length first with the speech time calculator.

Using it with a teleprompter mirror

Physical teleprompters reflect the screen onto glass in front of the camera, which flips the text. Turn on Mirror and the words read correctly in the glass. Put the browser in full screen on the tablet or monitor under the rig.

Reading during a live video call

You can place this teleprompter in a narrow window just under your webcam; see the setup guide for Zoom, Meet and Teams. But a browser window can't stay on top of a full-screen meeting. SocialAI Prompter for Mac can: it keeps your script in a slim, see-through strip just under your webcam, follows your voice the same way, and lets clicks pass through to the call.

Frequently asked questions

Is this teleprompter free?

Yes. No sign-up, no ads, no watermark and no time limit. Voice tracking is free and unlimited, and so are mirror mode, imports and share links.

How does voice tracking work?

Your browser's speech recognition turns what you say into text, and the teleprompter matches it to your script to find your place. It moves on as you read, waits when you pause, skips ahead if you jump a line, and ignores words that aren't in the script.

Which browsers support voice tracking?

Chrome, Edge and Safari on computers, and Chrome or Safari on most phones and tablets. In other browsers, use Play to scroll at a steady speed.

Is my script or voice recorded?

No. Your script stays in your browser. Voice tracking uses your browser's built-in speech recognition (Chrome sends the audio to Google to process it); we never receive or store your audio.

Can I use it with a teleprompter mirror rig?

Yes. Turn on Mirror to flip the text horizontally so it reads correctly in the glass. If your rig needs it, Settings (⚙) also has Upside down. Use full screen on the tablet or monitor under the rig.

Can I import a Word document or PDF?

Yes. Press Import file or drop a .docx, .pdf or .txt file on the script box. The file is read inside your browser and is never uploaded.

Can I record myself while reading?

Yes. Press ● Rec on the teleprompter screen to record from your webcam while the script scrolls. When you stop, download the video (MP4 or WebM, depending on your browser). There is no watermark, and the video never leaves your device.

Can I send a script to someone else?

Press Copy share link. The script is packed into the link itself, so it is not stored on any server; whoever opens the link sees the script ready to read.

Does it work on a laptop, tablet or phone?

Yes. It runs in the browser on Mac, Windows, Chromebook, iPad and phones. On a laptop, put the window near the top of the screen, close to your webcam, so your eyes stay near the lens.

Is there a free teleprompter for laptops?

Yes, this one. It runs in Chrome, Edge or Safari on any laptop with nothing to install and no account, and voice tracking is free and unlimited. Firefox and other browsers can use steady-speed scrolling.

Do I need an external webcam?

No. The laptop's built-in camera works: put the teleprompter in a narrow window right under it. An external webcam helps if your laptop camera sits below the screen, or if you read from a larger monitor; mount it on the screen you read from.

Will people see the teleprompter if I share my screen?

If you share your entire screen, yes: the teleprompter window is part of it. Share a single window or tab instead, and they will only see what you choose. On camera, nobody sees it; the camera only films you.

How do I change the colours, text width or reading line?

Open Settings (⚙) on the teleprompter screen. Choose white on black, yellow on black or black on white, a narrow, medium or full text width, where the reading line sits, and a 3, 5 or 10 second countdown.

Can I read from it during a Zoom or Teams call?

You can open it in another window, but it won't sit on top of the call. For live video calls, SocialAI Prompter for Mac keeps your script in a slim strip just under your webcam, on top of everything.
